PVADS Youth Theatre -Night & Day
This production was the brainchild
of Nettie Powell and she worked tirelessly for months to make it a success.
All credit is due to the youthful cast and technicians but we have to acknowledge
that without Nettie the event would not have happened at all.
The evening consisted of three 1-Act plays interspersed with poetry readings
and musical interludes. The sharp-eyed among the large audiences who attended
the performances on Friday and Saturday evenings, will have noticed that the
sound and lighting was also controlled by teams of youngsters.
The range and depth of talent, interest and skills that Pewsey can muster
is astonishing and bodes well for the future of PVADS which will celebrate
it's 75th anniversary in 2005. Long may it continue.
Pantomime 2005 - Beauty
& The Beast
The auditions have been held,
the production is fully cast and rehearsals are under way.
We are returning to Judy Shone for the script of this year's production. Ms
Shone writes scripts for her own amateur dramatic group and makes them available
for others to use. This will be the third of her scripts that we have produced
in Pewsey.
Previous newsletters have mentioned the change in performance dates. We will
still do 6 performances but split across two weekends; there will be performances
on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening on two successive
weeks.
Two advantages of this arrangement are: the juniors in the cast will not have
to go to school on the morning following any performance, and there will be
two matinée performances (which are always the most popular at the Box Office).
PVADS has now entered the Swindon round of
this national One-Act Play Festival three times with increasing success. Although
we have yet to win through to the second round, in 2003 Martin Clifton collected
the Matthew Herring Award for high attainment in the area of technical theatre
and stage craft, while Andy Vowles collected the Lester Trophy for best adult
actor in a supporting role. Then in 2004, Darren Little was awarded the Audrey
Suter Trophy for the best adult performance by an actor.
This year, Nettie Powell and Martin Clifton plan to stage "Baby-Sitting Kelvin"
in the adult section, and, in a new departure, we will enter, into the junior
section, "A Dog's Life" which is one of the three plays from our recent Youth
Theatre production. "A Dog's Life" is already cast but auditions for "Baby-Sitting
Kelvin" will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday 16th Nov in Nettie's house, Stable
End, Milton Road, Pewsey. Call (01672) 562 248 for directions on how to find
the house. It's fine just to turn up on the night.
If you can't make it that night, do please let either Nettie (07977 561 958)
or Martin (07774 952 267) know of your interest in taking part.
