MARCH 2002

Publicity

Nick Mitchell-Briggs has accepted the role of Publicity Officer with immediate effect (confirmed at the A.G.M).  He will work to deliver against the publicity document that has been developed by the committee.

His first challenge will be to reverse the downward trend in attendance at the Spring Play.  I’m sure we all wish Nick success in the role, primarily supported by Andy Vowles, Pete Bond and Simone.   But all other members, please give Nick the support he needs from you when he asks for it.

Spring Play

The play is fully cast and rehearsals are well under way.   It’s a very funny and action packed script and promises to be another excellent show.
See 'What's New' for details of prices and dates.

Theatre Trips

Watch out for details of our next trip in future Newsletters.  If there is a show you’d really like to see, Please let me know.

Carnival Event

Over the last several years, a feeling has been growing that Tavern has become rather tired.  This came to something of a head last year with all time low returns from the show.

Consequently, at an extraordinary committee meeting, a number of radical changes were proposed.

 1)       The name will be changed. A new name will be sought at the first of the two Ideas Nights (see dates below).

2)       For the 1st performance (Saturday within Carnival), no meal will be served, but nibbles will be put out on the tables.  All tickets will cost £6.50.

3)       For the 2nd & 3rd performances, there will be a Ploughman’s Supper (not a hot meal).  All tickets will cost £10.00.

We hope these measures will revitalise the event and take us back to higher tickets sales that allow us to make a larger donation to the Carnival funds.

Play Festival

We received a Certificate of Merit for our entry, plus three honorable mentions; both Nick Mitchell-Briggs and Colin Harris were in the top three for supporting actor, and Annette Powell was in the top three for supporting actress.

All those involved agreed it was a really good thing to do, and that we should make it a regular PVADS event.  See our Certificate and more on this in 'Reviews'
