NEWSLETTER Monthly News & Info
JUNE 2002
Rehearsals are now underway having started on Wednesday 12th June. Apart from a pause when the floor of the Bouverie Hall is re-sealed, rehearsals are now scheduled for every Wednesday at 7:30pm and every Sunday at 7:00pm.
We are launching an initiative to increase ticket sales for the performance within the Carnival fortnight. Apart from increased attention to publicity, we are changing the format slightly.
The two later performances (after Carnival) will be the same as ever, but the ticket price for the Carnival performance is reduced. There will be no meal served during that evening (just nibbles put out on the tables) and consequently the interval will be shorter than usual. To even things out, the show will start at the later time of 8:00pm on that night (as opposed to 7:30pm for all other performances).
Many Carnival events suffered from reduced ticket sales last year. PVADS committee are determined to reverse this trend.
Now that we own the trailer outright, we have ordered timber to build a permanent superstructure with a sound floor and a waterproof roof. This will pay off this year and in the years to come.
We will soon need volunteers to work on this year’s entry. As before, Float Master Mark Spanswick will be organising the work (and doing a large proportion of it himself). Watch for announcements.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but I am planning a trip to see a play (rather than a musical) , in London, in Late July or early August. Again, please watch for announcements.
Many of PVADS’ luminaries go on to other theatrical successes. I plan to make a regular feature to keep you advised of how our members contribute to the wider community. Some recent examples are;
·
In the chorus of Oklahoma in Newbury
·
A principal role in Devizes Light Operatic’s production of The Pirates
of Penzance
· A principal role in Devizes Wharf production of A Slice of Saturday Night.
I know there are others. If you know of any cases, please let me know so I can publish details. I look forward to hearing from you.
Rehearsals are under way ! Starting at 7:30pm on Sunday 10th June. Every Wednesday and Sunday evening from now on. . . . .see the 'What's New Page' for more info!
Rehearsals for Carousel have gone very well and we are well set up for the dormant phase while Tavern takes centre stage. As a new departure this year, three additional rehearsals have been scheduled, all on Thursday evenings. This will make a considerable difference and will help to bridge the long gap before we start again in September.
